Artist Nicholas “Nic” Hankins will lead an oil painting class from 10 am to 5 pm Saturday at the Hobby Lobby Store, located at 505 N. Foothills Plaza Drive, Maryville.

Registration is open to everyone from 15 years old. No previous painting experience is necessary.

“I am delighted to teach in the spirit of Bob Ross and with his method of painting,” Hankins said. “Bob Ross became a cultural phenomenon with his television show and his teaching, as he dispelled the idea that painting is a quest for ‘the chosen few’. In fact, all you need is the urge to put dreams on the canvas to experience the joys of creativity.

Hankins’ course is structured as a one-day workshop in which all students paint step by step with the instructor, focus on a topic, and complete a painting in around 6 hours. All necessary supplies are included in the tuition fee of $ 75 (plus tax) per student.

Hankins received a BFA in Studio Art with a concentration in painting at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in the spring of 2005 and completed teaching degrees with Bob Ross, Inc. in December 2011.

Hankins has taught painting classes throughout the South East and at a number of national and international painting seminars and events.
