Pastel Painting: Capturing the Light in Landscape is an upcoming class for all levels of pastel painters, scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, October 17 and 18, at the Rehoboth Art League.
Students will focus on landscape and get right to the heart of pastel painting – good drawing skills, engaging composition, recording correct values and understanding color with particular emphasis on light. Guest artist Katie Cassidy will discuss the visual effects of light and how to capture it in her artwork with luminosity, reflected light, reflections and atmospheric perspective. Participants will work from photos they will bring with them. Class sizes will be reduced so that social distancing can take place. Masks must be worn. The cost of the two-day course is $150 for members and $185 for non-members.
Cassidy graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in fine art and for the past 16 years has taught drawing, pastel, and oil painting at the Academy Art Museum in Easton, Md. She runs the museum’s adult art program with 13 artists and instructors, and numerous classes and workshops per year. His awards include first place in the Membership Exhibition at the Maryland Pastel Society for 2018 and 2019.
