Showing at the Public Gallery in east London this month, The Primordial Soup Shuffle is a series made primarily with oil pastels, painted on found and pasted cardboard packaging. Oscillating between realism and abstraction, Moreira’s images pose these eternal questions; where did we come from, what came before us and who else is there?
“There are countless cosmogonies which, over millennia, seek to tell the story of the creation of the cosmos and in The Primordial Soup Shuffle these various beginnings are evoked, woven together and renewed”, explains the gallery of the work.
Self-taught artist, Francisco Mendes Moreira lives and works in Lisbon. Over the past five years, Moreira has gained a large following both online and through international exhibitions in North America, Europe and Australia.
Francisco Mendes Moreira’s Primordial Soup Shuffle runs until 31 August 2019 at the Public Gallery in East London. Find out more at franciscomendesmoreira.wordpress.com.
